Please note: This feature is only available for the Pro plan and above. If this tool is used during your free trial period, the trial period automatically ends.
*Unless you are migrating existing gift cards to Rise from another platform, a one-time upload is included in every plan.
In this article, you will learn:
What is the bulk gift card tool?
Our tool allows you to generate gift card codes in bulk.
Why use this tool?
Campaigns: create codes to win back customers and generate more revenue through a gift card or store credit campaign. Read how Roka did so here.
Corporate gifting: allow businesses to order gift cards in bulk for their employees or clients / B2B. Read how Miami Heat did so here.
Promotions or prizes
Physical gift cards: create codes for physical gift cards that can be managed through Rise. Learn more about physical gift cards here.
Migrate existing gift cards (excluding Shopify gift cards - if you need to migrate Shopify gift cards, please reach out to us directly).
How to create gift cards in bulk:
Step 1: Go to the Rise dashboard -> Campaigns tab -> Create Bulk
Step 2: Select ‘Gift Cards’
Step 3: Select either ‘Generate codes’ or ‘CSV file’
If you’d like to customize your codes or assign the gift cards to specific customers, select ‘CSV’ file’.
Option 1: ‘Generate codes’
Step 1: Fill in the details:
Campaign name
Gift card value (you can add different values by clicking ‘add different value’), the lowest amount you can set is $1.
Number of gift cards for each value.
Expiration date - choose a date or leave as “never”
Step 2: Click ‘Create’ and confirm your campaign.
Once you approve your campaign, you’ll see that the status is ‘Running’ (see screenshot below).
Export: Once the upload is complete, you can export your campaign details. Click the export button to download your CSV file. You can then upload this to your CRM platform to send the codes to your customers.
Performance: You can track the performance of your campaign by clicking on the ‘Performance’ button. Learn more here.
Delete: The delete button will appear only for draft campaigns.
If you’d like to delete the codes uploaded to prevent customers from using them, you can adjust the gift card balance to ‘0.01’ (that is the lowest amount you can set) or disable the gift cards through the Rise dashboard - learn more here.
Option 2: ‘CSV file’
Step 1: Select ‘CSV file’
Step 2: Follow the instructions outlined for you (as seen in the screenshot below)
Please note:
When you download the CSV template, please:
Leave the first row (with the headings) exactly as is. If you make any adjustments, the file won’t upload.
Delete the contents in the second row - this is just an example for you to see which information to insert.
Code column: You can leave this blank if you’d like us to generate the codes for you. However, if you’d like to create your own codes, please ensure they are between 8- 20 alphanumeric characters only (per Shopify’s requirements).
Balance: Insert the gift card value without currency symbol - i.e only digits (no other characters). $0.01 is the lowest amount you can set.
Expires_on: Insert expiration date, or leave blank if you do not want gift cards to expire.
Customer_name & customer_email: if you do not need to assign the gift cards to specific customers, then you can leave this blank.
Reason & note: Here you can insert information that will only be viewed by your team via the Rise dashboard (see screenshot below). This allows you to keep track of why you have created these codes, or include any other details. Please note that the ‘reason’ or ‘note’ cannot be edited once the gift card has been created.
Step 3: After you upload, create and confirm approval of the bulk CSV, please wait until the status is ‘completed’ before exporting the file (as with the ‘generate codes’ option above).
Please note that if you are planning to upload a large number of gift cards (over 10K) it's best to reach out to us beforehand. Also, it's important to note that exceptionally large files may take more time to upload so we recommend uploading a few days prior to the target date.
Distributing the Codes
Once you have exported the file, you can upload it to your email marketing platform to send to your customers.
